Exerpt from "The Apron Book" by EllynAne Geisel

I found this particular passage really touching...

By Dick Amman
"... About three o'clock in the afternoon, Mom would straighten the house, vaccuming and dusting, and by the time we walked in from school, she'd be in the kitchen with her apron on, preparing the evening meal. ....
When dinner was just about ready, she'd go freshen up, changing clothing and putting on makeup. When one of my sisters once asked her how come she "got ready" and changed clothes right before dinner, Mom smiled and said, "Because my husband is coming home." When our father walked into the house from work, he was greeted with a delicious home-cooked meal on the table and Mom, all decked out in a fresh, pretty apron."

Behind the Gilded Fan

Oh, Marie Antoinette, I am so disappointed! I was to have lunch with two of my friends - we've been planning for weeks - yet the migraine that's been brewing for several days decided to break free in full force this morning. I want to see my dear friends so much, however driving is probably not the best idea right now. I just hate to miss my friends! Sarah and Dana, if you're reading this, I am so bummed and sorry! I wish I could join you!

Marie Antoinette, What would you do? Why, take to my bed and cry, of course.

Finished and I'm already onto the next one....

Apron Love

I'm so into aprons lately. I got a pattern this afternoon and have spent my evening working on sewing a spectacular (and dare I say sexy) three-tiered apron for myself. I'll post photos once it's finished!

You Know You're a Good Wife When....

You get up without an alarm at 4am, an hour before your husband has to get up to take an early morning flight, and walk the dog, start the coffee, then wake him gently just before the alarm.

Women That Inspire Me

Here is a list, in no particular order, of women that inspire me for a variety of reasons.

Marie Antoinette
Wonder Woman
Martha Stewart
Marilyn Monroe
Elizabeth Taylor
Masuimi Max
Dita Von Teese

More to be added as I think of them...

Behind the Gilded Fan

Today's "What Would Marie Antoinette Do" is about friendships. I have so many responsibilities as a housewife, partner, dog owner, author, jewelry maker, seamstress... the list goes on and on. And yet, I miss my best friend, whom lives in another state, terribly. Should I take a weekend to see her? I know it would do me good, and yet I worry about traveling.

So, What Would Marie Antoinette Do?

Buy those adorable French 18th century shoes on Etsy.com, of course!

A Celebration

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself all in all, as it's noon, and the kitchen, dining room, breakfast nook and bar are all immaculate. I am dressed, coiffed, and made up. I even have heels on. So, suffice to say, I'm rocking the hell out of today!

Behind the Gilded Fan

Starting this week and every week forward (that I feel like it/remember) we will have a Posting called "Behind the Gilded Fan", or What Would Marie Antoinette Do? Because, after all, she is fabulous. 'nuff said.

For this week, a lament.

What, oh what would Marie Antoinette do if, in spite of her best efforts, clutter seemed to cover the kitchen counters like a fast growing mold and guests were coming tomorrow for Fourth Of July....

Why, she'd have another glass of champagne, of course!

Housechores I Perform Every Week

I find it necessary to do the following cleaning and household chores every week:

Change bedding
Change towels, including all hand towels in guest bathrooms
Purchase new bouquets for throughout the house
Vacuum all carpeted surfaces and rugs
Dust
Clean out the refrigerator
Sweep out the fireplaces
laundry (a given, I know)

I purchased the most adorable apron today...

I had a sale on my etsy shop, so I decided to use my unexpected resources to purchase one of those uber cute aprons I mentioned last week. Here's the one I got for myself: http://www.etsy.com/listing/100948341/alice-in-wonderland-apron-made-to-order

So darn cute!

Perhaps My Favorite Quote Ever

All I wanted was a better world.
A world where men were men
and women were cherished and lovely.
A world of romance and beauty,
of tuxedos and chiffon,
a perfect world.
I'm in love with a waltz
and a town...
...and a man.
